Best Of Bollywood – Shaan and the Jatin-Lalit Orchestra In Concert

ShaanThe People’s Station Radio 90.5 FM has built its reputation on being a family-oriented station that delivers the best in East Indian programming to our listeners and naturally, the music we play is one of the key ingredients to maintaining our name “the people’s station”. In recent years, we have undertaken the task of further strengthening the bond that our listeners share with us by presenting memorable music events. In 2005 we proudly hosted the Bollywood Music Awards and in 2006, the Bollywood Movie Awards, bringing to our listeners, not just a concert, but a history-making event! And this year, we have another grand concert in store! It’s the Best of Bollywood that will take place on Saturday November 22nd at the Centre Of Excellence, Macoya. The Best of Bollywood is a three-fold concert so to speak.

One, it will feature the ever popular Bollywood playback singer Shaan – who first won our attention with his hit “Musu Musu” and then became a household name having been the host of Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Since then Shaan’s career has skyrocketed and he has gone on to give us numerous hits like Koi Kahe, Just Walk Into My Life, Kuch To Hua, Kuch Na Kaho, My Dil Goes Mmm…, and more recently, Chand Safarish, Thaare Vaaste and Deewangi Deewangi – all of which (and more) he’ll be performing on the night of the concert.

Two
, Indian films have always served as a connection between our Indo-Trinidadian culture and our East Indian culture, and the music from those films is an integral part of that relationship. Over the years there have been countless hit movies out of the Indian film industry that have made a huge impact on our Bollywood-loving audiences but there are some films that have become “classics”. Films like Yes Boss, Dilwale Dulhuniya Le Jayenge, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ki, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum and Fanaa – and one of the reasons that these films were so successful here is because of the music. The soundtracks for these films didn’t have a “bad” song and that’s due to the fact that they were composed by two of India’s finest music composers – the brother duo Jatin-Lalit. For years Jatin-Lalit has given Bollywood films some of the greatest music ever created and for the first time in Trinidad, the entire Jatin-Lalit Orchestra will perform in concert as they accompany Shaan, and will be directed by Lalit Pandit himself!

And finally the third piece of the puzzle is what really tops off the “history-making” element of The Best of Bollywood concert! Last year, 90.5 was approached by producers of the Bollywood film ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ (which stars Sushmita Sen, Fardeen Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Producer - Vivek Vaswani, Directed/Writer - Mudassar Aziz and Executive Producer – Anthony Maharaj) to assist them with filming parts of the movie here in T & T. We did, and the scenes were successfully shot at various locations. Although it is currently in the completion stages of post-production, the soundtrack has already been done by Lalit Pandit (of course) and features a string of songs (performed by Sonu Nigam, Daler Mehndi, Shreya Goshal, Amit Kumar and Anushka) that are sure to be future favorites on Trinidad’s airwaves. And so, for the first time in Trinidad a concert – the Best of Bollywood Concert - will mark the world release of a Bollywood film soundtrack – Dulha Mil Gaya. The audience will also be treated to a first look at some of the scenes from the film – again, something that’s never been done here before … imagine seeing scenes from a soon-to-be Bollywood blockbuster before the film is even released!

Shaan, the Jatin-Lalit Orchestra directed by Lalit Pandit and the world release of the songs from Dulha Mil Gaya with a sneak-peek at some of the movie’s scenes is what the Best of Bollywood Concert promises and will deliver on Saturday November 22nd at the Centre of Excellence Macoya from 8pm and is proudly presented by the people’s station Radio 90.5 and b-mobile in association with Home Mortgage Bank.
